Our Pastors

Rev Jonathan (Jon) Phua – ‘Pastor Jon’
Born in Singapore, but in Australia since two, Jon is definitely an Aussie Chinese!  He trained at UNSW in Social Work, then worked as a hospital social worker.  Convicted to leave something good for something even better, he began training for Full Time Christian Ministry.  First, by doing a ministry apprenticeship (MTS at UNSW: Campus Bible Study), then studying at Moore Theological College for his B. Divinity.  Then, as an ordained Anglican Minister, he served as an Assistant/Associate Minister in the parishes of Enfield, North Sydney and West Pennant Hills. With further study, he completed his MA (Theology, at Moore).  More recently, he served as a Pastoral Care Coordinator (Aged Care Chaplain) for Christian organization: HammondCare.
Having attended a Baptist Church, Chinese Christian Church (Milson’s Pt), with Presbyterian Minister Uncles, and experiencing ordained Anglican Ministry, Jon understands the wonderful richness of various Evangelical churches in coming to EFCA!  He is keen to see ministries and outreach grow to people of various ages and backgrounds.
Jon is married to Lika, they have 2 children: Joanna & Joshua, and he enjoys jogging, scenic walking, golf, following sports and playing boardgames.

(Lee Ling, Rev. Hoong and Zach)

Dear parishioners of EFCA,

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I am Rev. Hoong, your new pastor who has just arrived with my family from Malaysia.

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour when I was 12 and since then, God has led me on an incredible journey to know Him and make Him known. Previously I was trained and practised as a lawyer before embarking on theological education at Moore Theological College, Sydney. Upon my return to Malaysia, I served for a total of 15 years in full time ministry and was ordained as a minister in 2016.

Two years ago, after having served 10 years as a pastor in my previous church, I opened myself to experiencing God’s kingdom beyond my home country and God opened the way for me to return to Sydney to be your pastor. I am so glad to be here to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to the next generation.

I am married to Lee Ling and we are blessed with our 16 year old son, Zach. In our free time, we enjoy playing music and going to the gym together.

I look forward to serving our great God and Saviour with all of you.

To God be the glory!
